This fact falsely gives many people the impression that vitamin D deficiency is relatively rare in the population. Vitamin D3 is produced by the body itself under the influence of the sun's rays. Furthermore, vitamin D is also crucial for optimal immune system function and has been shown to have a major impact on general well-being in participants of various studies (5). In the study setting, it promoted the build-up of muscle mass and was able to positively influence the coordination of the muscles in the test group (4). However, in addition to its important functions in bone, vitamin D is also needed for the maintenance of optimal muscle function. Studies have shown that vitamin D, along with vitamin K2 and calcium, is needed for the maintenance of healthy and stable bones and teeth (1,2,3).
